Granola makes a great snack any time of day. Healthy, delicious and easy to make! Put some in your pocket and take it on the road. Granola is typically made with butter. The Cheap Vegetarian's vegan granola recipe uses vegetable oil instead. Vegan granola seems to store better than it's butter based buddy.


  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup diced dried apple
  • 1/2 cup raisins


1) Preheat the oven to 300F.

2) In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, pecans, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Stir with a large wooden spoon to combine.

3) In a 2-cup liquid measuring cup or small bowl, whisk together the canola oil and maple syrup. Pour the liquid over the oat mixture, stirring well to coat the oats completely with the oil and syrup.

4) Spread the mixture out evenly on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Bake until the granola is lightly toasted, about 30 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Remove from the oven and place the baking sheet on a wire rack to cool. Stir in the dried apple and raisins, then store in an airtight container.

Additional Tips

Granola, staple of hippies. There is a reason for this. Granola is by default vegan, unless of course you insist on putting butter in the mix. Granola is also packed with energy and nutrients. By all means, take and make this vegan granola recipe your by adding your favorite nuts, dried fruits and berries. Ive been adding hemp hearts to mine recently, I can fully recommend it.
