Home Mains Vegetarian Baked Beans Recipe - Sweet Molasses Beans

Nothing says hearty like a big bowl home baked beans. This vegetarian baked beans recipe is EXTREMELY simple to prepare and costs penny’s a bowl. Sorry, Heinz, but its time for me to move on.

  • 2 cups dried beans [yellow eyed beans, or white/navy beans]
  • 1/4 pound of margarine/butter
  • Half cup of molasses
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • One onion, chopped

Beans: rinse the dried beans, cover with clean water and bring to a boil. Cook for one hour 45 minutes, remove from heat and let sit one hour. Separate beans from liquid, reserve the liquid.
In a suitable roasting pan or casserole dish, combine the cooked beans and all other ingredients. Add the reserved bean liquid until it covers the mixture. Bake at °325 until the beans are soft and brown.
