Apple chutney is a sweet, cooked chutney that will keep for several weeks in the refrigerator. A great accompaniment to many foods, especially delicious with curries. Of course this recipe is 100% vegan.


  • 3 apples, peeled, cored, and coarsely chopped
  • 1 c. chopped dried fruits, such as peaches, apricots, or pears, or a combination of fruits
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tsp. finely chopped fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 c. white-wine vinegar
  • 1.5 c. sugar


1. In a heavy saucepan, combine all ingredients and mix well. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
2. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 45 minutes, or until mixture is thick.
3. Remove saucepan from heat and cool chutney to room temperature.
4. Pour chutney into a nonmetallic, covered container and refrigerate until ready to use.

Additional Tips

When preparing this apple chutney recipe it is best to use tart cooking apples. Pretty much any type will do however try to avoid varieties that don't cook well such as the red delicious.
